Yesterday, thirty teachers from as far as New Pulse, New York, Trenton, East Orange and local teachers from Monmouth County, participated in the One-Day Professional Development Workshop, “Exploring the Works of T. Thomas Fortune & August Wilson,” at Two River Theater. Additionally, they visited the former home of T. Thomas Fortune, a National Historic Landmark, joined by Roger Mumford of Roger Mumford Homes, who is currently restoring the Fortune home into a cultural center. The day was filled with the inspiration and drive of so many amazing educators, one of whom, wrote the following testimonial below.

Dear Gilda, Roger, and friends:

Yesterday’s seminar and field trip to the Fortune House was one of the most inspiring experiences of my life. I’m astonished by your partnership with the community and what you have accomplished. You are the living antidote to so much of what ails our world today. Thank you for a rich, gratifying experience. And for your kindness and hospitality. I look forward to seeing you in October.

Best regards, Mark Portier

It brings the foundation great joy to know we are making a positive impact in the community and with individuals alike. It is that very same passion and civic mindedness that made T. Thomas Fortune a trailblazer and social justice crusader of his time. We are simply following in his giant foot steps.
Thank you again to everyone who came out and made this event a success. Remember to follow us on Instagram and Twitter and like us on Facebook.
